Typographic Portrait

October 1, 2011

The challenge was to create a self-portrait using characters of any available typeface in 100% black. Fittingly, the text used to form my visual identity is personally sentimental: lyrics to two favorite songs (“Bennie and the Jets” and “In the Sun”) and a quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. To design the self-portrait, a photograph of myself was housed on a separate layer in Adobe Illustrator. Making this layer occasionally invisible allowed progress to be clearly seen. The result is a face created purely from letter forms that resembles its creator.
