Pixelated Paint Study

Pixelated Paint Study

February 1, 2011

This intricate composition was a two-fold test: patience of the mind and hand. A high-contrast magazine image was selected and broken into a specifically sized grid system. Each resulting square contained a shade of grey to be replicated using acrylic paint. A tremendous amount of time and effort was required for each square; the tedious task was to mix the paint to the correct shade, value, and hue and to fill the matching square on the canvas precisely and cleanly. The result is a pixelated image that mimics the original (…squint a little harder).
